Ward Greenberg Partner Harold Kurland has been recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award in the 2021 Legal Excellence Awards by the Rochester Business Journal and The Daily Record. The award honors lawyers whose careers have helped shape the legal landscape in the Rochester area and who have shown longstanding commitment to the community. The award will be presented at a ceremony in November.

About Harold Kurland
A founding member of the firm, Harold Kurland is a well-known and respected litigator, mediator and arbitrator who has earned a reputation for commitment to excellence in the law and has demonstrated the highest levels of integrity, ethics, and civility throughout his career. A consummate professional with a calm and confident demeanor, Harold brings thoughtful and creative approaches to complex litigation, both as a trial lawyer and as a mediator and arbitrator.
Harold has long had an impact on the local and state bar. He served as President of the Monroe County Bar Association, as President of the Monroe County Bar Foundation, and also is a past President and Master of the Rochester Inns of Court. He has been very active in the New York State Bar Association as a member of several sections, including the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section, the Committee on Professional Ethics and he served with distinction as a member of the organization’s House of Delegates. He is a Fellow of the New York Bar Foundation. He has served for many years on the New York Office of Court Administration’s Advisory Committee on Civil Practice.
Harold's reputation expands well beyond state borders. He has tried matters across the country with distinction. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American Bar Foundation, and an Associate of the American Board of Trial Advocates.
As a skilled and experienced litigator, Harold is also a highly sought-after mediator. He is on the mediation panel of the U.S. District Court, Western District of New York and is certified by the International Mediation Institute. He is a mediator, arbitrator and instructor of the American Arbitration Association and is a member of the New York Chapter of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals.
Harold also has had a lifelong commitment to the Rochester community through various active board roles including as a member of the Board of Directors of the Volunteer Legal Services Project. He also served on the Board of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, on the Board of Governors of the Genesee Valley Club, and is a past President of the Dartmouth Club of Rochester.
Harold was named a “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers in America for Medical Malpractice Defense for 2021.
