Practice Focus & Experience

Mr. Purcell has represented clients throughout New York State in cases pending in both state and federal courts. He has worked in a variety of substantive areas, including medical malpractice, product liability, medical device defense, commercial litigation and tax certiorari/eminent domain.

Mr. Purcell’s work in medical malpractice cases has been on behalf of a leading teaching hospital and its physicians. These cases have involved a wide range of medical specialties, including: bariatric surgery, vascular surgery, interventional radiology, spine surgery, cardiology, neonatology, general surgery and internal medicine. Mr. Purcell has successfully tried many of these cases to verdict and also has resolved cases through motion practice, arbitration and/or mediation.

In cases involving medical devices, Mr. Purcell has worked with clients from many different sectors, including manufacturers of eye care products, medical lasers, spine surgery implant products, as well as distributors/retailers of various types of hospital/medical office equipment. In the product liability field, Mr. Purcell has represented clients in defending claims related to power tools, building products, exercise equipment and hydraulic cylinders. Mr. Purcell also has represented commercial clients in breach of contract, employee covenant/non-compete and employment discrimination matters.
